Meet Dr. Kaplan

Originally from Johannesburg, South Africa, Dr. Ivor Kaplan moved to the United States in 1977 to further his education.

After an internship at the Wilmington Medical Center in Delaware, he completed a full General Surgery residency at Temple University in Philadelphia, earning Board Certification Certificate # 29186 in 1983.

Dr. Kaplan continued his education with one of the top plastic surgery residencies in the country at Eastern Virginia Medical School, under the tutelage of Dr. Charles E. Horton and his associates. It was here that he received Board Certification Certificate # 3575 in Plastic Surgery, in 1988. Only two years later, after an additional Fellowship training in Microsurgery and Hand Surgery at the University of Louisville, Dr. Kaplan earned Board Certification Certificate # 77 in Hand Surgery.

As a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS), the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), and the American Society for the Surgery of the Hand (ASSH), Dr. Kaplan remains connected to the plastic surgery community. He has full staff privileges at Sentara Norfolk General, Leigh Memorial Hospital, Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center, and the Chesapeake Regional Medical Center, as well as both of the Outer Banks (OBX) Medical Centers of North Carolina.

His extensive medical training in general and reconstructive surgery in both South African and the United States affords Dr. Kaplan with an in-depth understanding of the complexities of the human body. Due to his keen eye for detail, artistry, and human responses to physical surgical stimulus, Dr. Kaplan has proven results with low complication rates and an impressive performance average (AKA he gets it right the first time).

An artist professionally and personally, Dr. Kaplan is a lifelong student of the visual arts. Focusing primarily on clay sculpture in recent years, he has also drawn in pastels, sketched in charcoal, and painted with oil and acrylics since childhood. Married and the proud father of triplet boys, Dr. Kaplan enjoys featuring his three sons in his artwork.
